Winners of 52nd Summer Show announced—
Over 300 guests gathered at the St. Tammany Art Association for the opening reception of the highly anticipated 52nd Annual Summer Show on July 8. Juror Bill Fagaly selected seven winners who received a total of $3,000 in prize money.
Winners included: Best of Show “Company of Myself” by Jason Guynes, Tuscaloosa, AL; First place was “Audrey” by Aron Belka, New Orleans; Second place was “The Dead Christ” by John Troy, Glendale, MO; Third place was “Lisa” by Les Schmidt, New Orleans, LA. Three honorable mentions were awarded to Lara Vaienti, Bozeman, MT, “There’s a Line”; Robert Viosca, Mandeville, LA, “View from My Pillow”; and Loretta Feeney, Centreville, MA, “Happy Hour Brooklyn.”
The 52nd Summer Show was open to artists nationwide who submitted works completed in the past two years. This year, work by artists from 15 states is represented. There were a total of 170 artists who entered 465 works with 34 selected.
The exhibition is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs and donations from Roberta D. Bruck, Henry Hood and Carlos Sanchez with a grant from Heather Case in memory of Miriam Barranger.
The exhibition runs through August 19 with a closing reception from 5:30-9 pm featuring conversations with some of the winning artists. Gallery hours are Mon-Fri, 10 am to 4 pm; Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm. Admission to the reception and gallery is free and open to the public.
